Definition of Descriptive 
      >Descriptive text is kind of text which list the characteristics of  persons, places, or things or describing living and non living things such as plant, animals, building, plane, etc.
Types of Descriptive text 
      >Types of narrative Autobiography,  Magazine(car magazine, fashion magazine, travel magazine, etc) specification (state what kind and characteristics of materials to be used).
Communicative purpose of descriptive
      >The Communicative purpose of descriptive text is to describe a particular persons, places, and things.

 
Generic Structure of Descriptive 
       •Identification : Introducing where or who is the subject is being  describe 
       •Description : describe part qualities, and characteristic or the supporting part of the paragraph to describe the in detail to assist the reader to “see and fell” the subject. E.g. the qualities,appearance, uses, habits, etc.

Language Function of Descriptive
Focus on specific participants 
•Adjective and compound adjective 
•Linking verbs 
Use of simple present tense.

Example :
 
Tana Toraja
Tana Toraja is situated in South Sulawesi. Its eight hours drive from Makassar, where the nearest airport located. Tana Toraja is famous for its death ceremonies. It was foreign anthropologist who made it internationally known. They were so amazed at Torajan sophisticated culture, especially its death ceremony in which many buffaloes were slaughtered.
     Besides its culture, its hospitality people and breathtaking landscape along the way to Toraja attract tourist to visit the place. It is  reported that thousand of tourist come to the place every year. The complex mixture of scenic beauty and magical culture of the Torajan  have known for years. In 1974, Neckermann, one of the biggest German tour operator, started bringing large number of foreign tourist to  the place.
      When tourist first come, the locals were happy as they could learn something from the outside world. There was a great hope that tourism would increase their economy. It would bring many job opportunities.

My Dog

I have a pet. It is a dog and call it brownie.
Description
Brownie is a Chinese breed. It is a small, fluffy, and cute. It has got thick brown fur. When I cuddle it, the fur feels soft. Brownie does not like bones. Every day it eats soft food like steamed rice, fish or bread. Every morning I give her milk and bread. When I am at school. Brownie plays with my cat. They get along well, and never fight maybe because brownie does not bark a lot. It treats the other animals in our house gently, and it never eats shoes. Brownie is really as sweet and friendly animals.

Descriptive Text

A.       Pengertian Descriptive Text

Descriptive Text merupakan jenis teks yang banyak digunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dalam menggambarkan benda, tempat, manusia, hewan dan lain sebagainya. Descriptive Text adalah sebuah teks bahasa Inggris untuk mengggmbarkan seperti apa benda atau mahluk hidup yang kita deskripsikan, baik secara kenampakan, bau, suara, atau tekstur dari benda atau makhluk hidup tersebut.

B.        Tujuan Komunikatif Descriptive Text

Tujan Komunikatif dari Descriptive Text adalah untuk menggambarkan dan mengungkapkan ciri-ciri dari benda, tempat, atau mahluk tertentu secara umum, tenpa adanya riset atau peneilitan secara mendalam dan menyuluruh.

C. Generic Structure Descriptive Text

Di setiap Descriptive Text terdapat dua bagian yang menjadi ciri dari Descriptive Text itu sendiri. Kedua bagian tersebut adalah:

1.      Identification 
Idnetification adalah bagian dari Descriptive Text yang berisi tentang topik atau "apa" yang akan digambarkan atau dideskripsikan.

2.      Description 
Description adalah bagian terakhir dari Descriptive Text yang berisi tentang pembahasan atau penggambaran tentang topik atau "apa" yang ada di Identification mengenai kenampakan fisik, kualitas, perilaku umum maupun sifat-sifatnya.
 
D. Ciri Kebahasan Descriptive Text
  
1.  Descriptive Text menggunakan Present Tense, misalnya: go, eat, fly, etc.  

2. Descriptive Text menggunakan berbagaimacam Adjectives (kata sifat) yang bersifat Describing (mengambarkan), Numbering (Menomerkan), dan Classifying (mengklasifikasikan), misalnya: two strong legs, sharp white fangs, etc.  

3. Descriptive Text menggunakan Relating Verbs untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek, misalnya: my mum is realy cool, it has very thick fur, etc.  

4. Descriptive Text menggunakan Thinking Verbs (kata kerja berfikir, seperti belive, think, etc.) dan Feeling Verbs (kata kerja perasa, seperti feel)untuk mengungkapkan pandangan pribadi penulis tentang subjek, misalnya: police believe the suspect is armed, I think it is a clever animal, etc.  

5. Descriptive Text juga menggunakan Adverbs (kata keterangan) untuk memberikan informasi tambahan mengenai perilaku atau sifat (Adjective) yang dijelaskan, misalnya: it is extremely high, it runs definitely past, etc.

1.      MacQuarie University

Macquarie University is one of the largest universities in Australia. This year, in 2004, it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Description
The university is located at the North Ryde Greenbelt, Sydney, where the New South Wales government sets aside 135 hectares for the institution. In 1964, Macquarie area was a rural retreat on the city fringe, but today the campus and its surroundings have evolved beyond recognition. The North Ryde District has grown into a district of intensive occupation anchored by a vibrant and growing university.

(Universitas ini terletak di North Ryde Greenbelt, Sydney, di mana pemerintah New South Wales menyisihkan 135 hektar bagi lembaga univeristas tersebut. 2.      Jatim Park
For people in East Java, Jatim Park may have been heard many times as it is one of the famous tourism object in East Java province. Jatim Park offers a recreation place as well as a study center.
Jatim Park is located at Jl. Kartika 2 Batu, East Java. To reach the location is not too difficult because the object is only 2, 5 kilos meters from Batu city. This Jatim Park tourism object is about 22 hectares width.
Visitor can enjoy at least 36 kinds of facilities which can attract them as well as give new knowledge. Just after the pass gate, the visitors will find an interesting view of ‘Galeri Nusantara’ area. This study offering continues to step on ‘Taman Sejarah’ area, which contains of miniature temple in East Java like Sumberawan temple, customhouse of Kiai Hasan Besari Ponorogo and Sumberawan Statue.
The other facility which is able to be enjoyed is ‘Agro Park’ area. It presents crop and rareness fruits, animal diorama which consists of unique animals that have been conserved, and supporting games like bowling, throw ball, scooter disco, etc

Jatim Park is suitable for family and school recreation. The recreation area sites offer precious tour and can used as alternative media of study.
